About This Attraction
Time Out Market Lisboa revolutionized the food hall concept when it opened in 2014 as the world's first editorially-curated market. Located inside the historic Mercado da Ribeira building dating from 1892, this innovative concept brings together the best of Lisbon's culinary scene in one dynamic space. The market features 26 food stalls representing top chefs and restaurants handpicked by Time Out's editors - from Michelin-starred chefs to local favorites serving traditional Portuguese cuisine, fresh seafood, artisanal pizzas, Asian fusion, burgers, desserts, and more. Eight bars offer everything from craft cocktails to Portuguese wines and beers. The concept is simple but brilliant: instead of traveling across Lisbon to try different restaurants, families can sample the city's best cuisine in one location while seated at communal tables in the central hall. This makes it perfect for groups where everyone wants something different - one person orders seafood, another pizza, kids get burgers, and everyone eats together. The market operates from 10am to midnight (until 2am on weekends), serving breakfast through dinner. Beyond food, the market includes a dozen shops selling Portuguese products, books, and gourmet items. The Time Out Studio hosts concerts and events, while the Time Out Academy offers cooking classes. The traditional fruit, vegetable, and fish market continues operating on the perimeter, maintaining the building's authentic market atmosphere. While some locals consider it touristy and prices are higher than local restaurants, the quality is excellent and the convenience unbeatable for families. The lively atmosphere, communal seating, and variety make it especially popular with visitors.
