Teleférico de Lisboa (Lisbon Cable Car)

The cable car is a short ride, eight to twelve minutes each way, so on its own it does not justify the trip from the ship. It works as an add-on: if you are already going to the Oceanário or walking the Parque das Nações waterfront, it gives you a raised view of the district, the river and the Vasco da Gama Bridge for €7.50. From the terminal, walk about 10 minutes to Santa Apolónia and take a suburban train to Oriente, or take a taxi (about 15 minutes). The south station is on Passeio de Neptuno next to the Oceanário; the north station is on Passeio das Tágides beside the Vasco da Gama Tower, now a hotel. The best use of time is one way only. Ride from the Oceanário end north, looking towards the bridge, then walk back along the river; the line follows the promenade, so the walk is easy and flat. A return ticket costs €9.50 and suits anyone who would rather not walk. Children aged 3 to 12 pay €5.50 one way and €6.50 return. There is no separate senior fare on the cable car itself, but the combined cable car and Oceanário ticket has one (€25.30 for over-65s, €33.90 for adults). Opening hours change through the year: 11:00 to 19:00 until 23 October 2026, then 11:00 to 18:00 until 12 March 2027, with longer summer hours (10:30 to 20:00) from late May to mid-September. It does not run before 10:30 in any season, so it cannot be your first stop on an early arrival. Queues build on weekend afternoons; weekday mornings after opening are quietest. Tickets must be bought before boarding. They are non-refundable but do not expire, which helps if wind or a schedule change stops you riding.
