Clube de Fado

Clube de Fado only fits a port day if your ship stays in Lisbon into the evening or overnight. It is an evening venue: the kitchen opens at 19:30, the first fado set starts at 20:30 and the night runs until about 01:00. Check your all-aboard time before you book. Getting there is easy. The house is on Rua de São João da Praça, the street that curves round below the Sé, about 400 m and six minutes on foot from the terminal: walk west along the riverside avenue and turn up into lower Alfama behind the cathedral. Coming back late, the walk is short and mostly downhill, or a taxi takes a few minutes. There is one menu, at €78 per person (2026): couvert, starter, main course and dessert, with the fado included. Drinks are extra; wine by the glass starts at €9. The seafood cataplana adds €40 per person. Book online (free, up to 10 people); the room is small and evenings fill in advance, especially in summer and at weekends. Arrive between 19:30 and 20:00 so the first courses are on the table before the singing starts. Sets alternate with the courses. When someone stands to sing, service stops and the room goes silent: that is the house's one rule, and it covers phones too. If you have to be back on board by about 22:30, you will hear the first sets but not the full night, so tell staff when you sit down. The house was opened in January 1995 by the guitarist Mário Pacheco, who accompanied Amália Rodrigues. It is a dinner venue with professional musicians, not a casual tasca where neighbours take turns to sing, and it is priced accordingly. The house also has a petiscos menu (€4–20) for people arriving after dinner; ask when booking whether a later, lighter visit is possible.
